Niagara Falls Trip
I got back from Niagara Falls a couple of weeks ago and hadn’t written anything about it, although Megan did a whole blow by blow write up. You’ve probably seen the pictures, so here’s my opinion. I guess so many people tell you “you’ve got to see the Canadian side” because so many people told them and they’ve got to talk themselves into believing it’s the better side. Don’t believe it. It’s only the better side if you like tacky touristy traps a lá South of the Border and Ober Gatlinburg. Honestly, they’ve got this talking box outside some joint, hawking the “3D-4D Falls Experience”. See and feel the majesty of the falls. I mean really, all you’ve got to do is walk around the back side of the casino and see and feel the falls for real. If you want to see something good, travel up Niagara Blvd. and go see Niagara on the Lakes. It’s a touristy town but much more laid back and natural. Plus you pass a winery every quarter mile on the way there, if you like that sort of thing.
The park on the American side is the place to be in my opinion. Lots of trails, trees, grass and not so many tourists. And the views are just as good in my opinion. Plus you can get much closer to the falls, both the American and Canadian. If you were thinking about doing the Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds but can only do one, then do Cave of the Winds. Maid of the Mist is nice and you can get pretty close to the Horseshoe Falls, but you can just about get under Bridal Veil Falls. Do both if you can though.
